Service life of LED luminaires (e-learning)
19.12.2022 | Light knowlege
The service life of an LED lighting system is an important quality criterion. In practice, this is less about the rare total failure of LEDs, but more about their loss of brightness, so-called degradation of luminous flux, over time. If you wish to compare different manufacturers' specifications on lifetimes, it is important to know the underlying definition.
In addition to the specification of service life in hours (e.g. 50,000 h), the remaining residual luminous flux in percent is the most important parameter.
In this course you will learn:
- how the mean rated service life is defined,
- what the specification L80 = 50,000 precisely means,
- which specifications are commonly used in the market,
- why the so-called B-value no longer has relevance in practice,
- and how the rated service life depends on the operating temperature of the LED.
