Building Certifications (e-learning)

19.12.2022 | Light knowledge

To assess sustainability, certifications are offered by service providers worldwide which are based on different certification systems. Certification systems consider criteria that go far beyond just the requirement of energy efficiency. They are used to evaluate the building functions in which lighting is given more or less importance.

Sustainability is an aspect that has increasingly had high priority in the construction and renovation of buildings since the early 1990s. The reasons for this are the intensive use of buildings – people generally spend a major part of their working day in non-residential buildings and several hours indoors at home – as well as the long time span from their construction to renovation or decommissioning. The characteristics of a building that is planned today will therefore remain for a long time and influence our lives. To assess sustainability, certifications are offered by service providers worldwide which are based on different certification systems.

This course gives you an overview of common international certification systems for buildings and the associated systems with credit points. You will also learn about the importance given to lighting:

  1. DGNB
  2. MINERGIE®
  3. BREEAM®
  4. LEED®
  5. WELL Building Standard®
  6. HQE®
  7. CASBEE
  8. Green Star
